As many of you know I went on an exciting little trip a couple of weeks ago. It was such a fab couple of days I thought I’d tell you a little bit more about it . . .
At the end of last year I was contacted by Creative Oceanic, organisers of the Welsh Wedding Awards, to be told I’d been nominated in the ‘Cake Designer of the Year’ category for these brand new national awards to be held at The Exchange Hotel in Cardiff.
I was thrilled to be nominated but ummed and ahhed about whether to go as Cardiff is a fair way from Morfa Nefyn – around a 4½ hour drive in clear traffic! Luckily a friend mentioned that you can fly from Anglesey so I checked it out and was amazed at how easy the trip would now be. The flight is operated by Flybe, who fly from Cardiff to Anglesey twice a day Monday to Friday, and costs just £40 return - even cheaper at times. I couldn’t believe it and booked right away!
So, on the morning of Monday 19th February myself and a friend set off on our little adventure. We drove to Anglesey Airport, boarded the little 21 seat plane and off we went; around 40 minutes later we were coming down to land having enjoyed amazing views from the plane. It couldn’t have been easier.
We hopped on a shuttle bus which took us straight into Cardiff city centre, enjoyed a little window shopping and lunch at ASK Italian before heading to out hotel. After getting a little lost thanks to Google maps we made it to the hotel, checked in and enjoyed a quick swim and sauna before getting ready for the awards.
I was a little nervous by this time, as I always am before awards ceremonies, but as we arrived at the venue the nerves eased a little - possibly thanks to a glass of prosecco! The Exchange is a lovely old building, full of quirky character and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. It was lovely to see Susan from Lili Wen Florist in Porthmadog and I couldn’t help but laugh a little when she and her husband told me about the long drive - we definitely made the right choice arriving in style on our tiny plane!
The awards themselves were brilliant; a lovely dinner with entertainment from singer Lynsey Pugh and a great opportunity to meet others in the wedding industry. I was thrilled to win North West Wales Cake Designer of the Year and delighted for Susan who also won her category of North West Wales Florist of the Year.
I spend such a lot of time working in isolation so it’s so nice to enjoy an evening with others in the same industry and lovely to see my hard work recognised - thanks to Creative Oceanic for organising the awards and to everyone who voted for me!
